“We reported insane growth from about day 10. We’ve always struggled to be cited by Perplexity in particular, and we found specific use for Inciteful’s Agent feature to guide our LLM to build specific AEO content based around the real results from the dashboard.”
What is an AI citation? In plain words.
An AI citation is a page an AI assistant lists as a source for its answer. Inciteful stores the sources of every answer it tracks, so you can see which domains and exact pages the engines read for your client’s questions, what kind of site each one is, and which sources only their rivals get.
It turns “get more coverage” into a list: the pages to improve, and the sites worth being on.

The sources rivals get. And your client does not.
A gap view, rival by rival.
The sources cited for a competitor on your client’s questions, and never for your client.
- Open any rival to see the sources that power them
- Earned, third-party sources come last in the fix list, after what the site itself can fix
Cited for a competitor on your client’s questions. Never for Harbour Dental.
Typed by a rule you can see, and correct.
Each source is typed as owned, competitor, review, social and so on, and the rule that typed it is shown. Your correction overrides the rule and is labelled as yours.
- One drawer per source: where it appears and what it is typed as
A correction overrides the rule, and is always labelled as yours.

The gap view lists what only the rivals get.
A brief for content. A list for PR.
- For content work
- The cited-page table shows which of the client’s own pages the engines already read.
- For digital PR
- The gap view is a list of sites that cite rivals and not your client.
- In the AEO Boost

Questions about sources, answered plainly.
What is an AI citation?
An AI citation is a source an AI assistant lists for its answer, usually as a link. Inciteful records every one for the questions you track, down to the exact page.
Is being cited the same as being named?
No. A link inside an answer counts as a source, never as the answer naming the business. Your client’s page can be read and a rival still recommended, which is why the product keeps the two apart.
How are sources typed?
Each source is typed as owned, competitor, review, social and so on by a rule, and the rule is shown. If it is wrong you can correct it. Your correction overrides the rule and is labelled as yours.
Can I see the exact pages, not just the domains?
Yes. A cited-page table lists the exact pages the answers read, and each source opens to show where it appears and what it is typed as.
What is the source gap view?
The sources that are cited for a rival on your client’s questions and never for your client. It is the shortlist for outreach and digital PR.
Which AI engines does it cover?
ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity on every plan, with Copilot included on Pro and Agency. Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode can be added per client, and so can Copilot on Solo.
How does an agency use it?
Content teams use the cited pages to see what the engines already read. PR teams use the gap view as an outreach list. The Agent reads the same evidence when it explains why a rival is cited instead.
